Why the Evergreen Academy of Music is Colorado’s #1 choice for music lessons

The Evergreen Academy of Music has taught hundreds of students from age 3 to adult on the piano, flute, and clarinet for close to 20 years.

" I’ll never forget my second private music teacher and how she changed my life. I was 10 years old, and even though I started playing the piano at 7, those lessons weren’t much fun. I had no idea the joy ahead of me with music when a private music teacher actually took the time to cater to my specific needs.

Enter Mrs. Marfisi, my second private music teacher. She was so patient, kind and fun. Attending my music lessons was the highlight of my week! I believe those times with Mrs. Marfisi changed the course of my life in so many ways. I played music through college and I became an elementary school music teacher. I thank Mrs. Marfisi for getting me started.

Now fast forward to today. I get joy from watching my students learn, grow, and have fun. Not only are the lessons tailored to their specific needs, but my students choose the songs they want to play. They enjoy learning to play their favorite songs!

I am glad to be able to offer high end in person and online private music lessons, and give the gift of music to students all over the country. I am an accredited teacher with my Bachelors of Music in Music Education and my K-12 Music Teaching License.

By the way, I provide instruction for adults too- of all levels. With my method of teaching and my step by step approach, I can double almost anyone’s piano playing in 30 days or less."

Rachel Stone and the Evergreen Academy of Music

When considering a music instructor, the variety of choices is as numerous as the individuals teaching. Rachel Stone, exceptional music teacher and director of Evergreen Academy of Music heads this list with her well-considered approach that brings the student into a rich, hands-on relationship honoring music. After 20 years and hundreds of students, the Evergreen Academy of Music stands as the number one choice for Colorado music lessons, whether in-person or Zoom. Rachel teaches piano, flute and clarinet to students from three years of age to adult. She states that her guidance delivers creativity, confidence and most of all, joy.

This dedicated instructor began her music career in Los Angeles, California when she was seven. She originally took lessons on the piano, but eventually switched to the flute when her beginning teacher failed to enhance her learning with fun or captivating creativity. Her second private teacher was patient, kind and fun, which inspired her to work even harder. Flute resulted in a plethora of lessons that were the highlight of her week -- effectively changing her life. It was those precious, beginning years that taught her how to communicate with her students, drawing out their absolute best regardless of age.

Rachel continued on a musical path, filled with private teachers along the way. When it was time to go to college she chose the University of Redlands in California, attending classes and teaching private lessons on the side. Eventually she graduated with her Bachelor of Music, gaining her credentials in California for music and a teaching degree at the same time. Rapidly placing her career above all else, she became an elementary school music teacher. By then she had learned to play the clarinet and resumed piano study, mastering all three instruments. Although she was the band instructor, which required her oversight of saxophone, trombone and trumpet students, she excelled in her private lessons of piano, flute and clarinet. In doing so she discovered that this was her calling and has taught privately ever since.

During the past 20 years Rachel has refined her teaching techniques to what they are today. She adheres to what she calls a “step-by-step” process, in effort to never overwhelm her students. Never is a budding musician given a whole piece at once, but rather small sections to learn by a gradual regimen. Too, all this personalized education is presented through relaxation and fun. Although each student is fully in pursuit of continued improvement, Rachel’s appropriate and gentle direction to push forward always looms overhead. Two free recitals per year are included, where even beginners perform three short pieces.

Rachel attests that she is there for the student 100%. She begins their association with a personal interview and a visit to the student’s home. This healthy start is designed to create and promote comfort. There is no office to attend and the home ends up being the studio for learning. She believes establishing a comfort zone to be crucial and also the first step to accomplishing desired goals. As for the future, a central studio will probably become a reality, but for now she is sticking with in-home lessons. In addition, this instructor rejects typical exercise books and opts instead to allow each student to choose their own material and go from there. Rachel states, “I’m a teacher who happens to be a musician, and not the other way around.” This woman completely identifies with the learning process and essentially guarantees positive results.

In most recent years, Rachel and husband Eric elected to become part of our mountain community, which they first explored then grew to love. Rachel currently teaches a number of students in Evergreen and her business is expeditiously taking off. Once contacted online or via phone or email, she will set up an initial conversation and make an appointment to meet in person. Meanwhile, a tour of her website will afford much insight to anyone seeking lessons, providing extensive information to begin the journey with this accomplished teacher. All three of her instruments are listed with what to expect for each, along with intriguing testimonials and the many benefits of becoming an Evergreen Academy of Music student.

“My 9 yr-old daughter has been taking piano lessons with Rachel for the past 1.5 years. Rachel is always punctual and easy to communicate with. Rachel's music collection has helped my daughter advance quite a bit in her playing--with music ranging from the Harry Potter and Star Wars themes to simple pieces by Bach and Tchaikovsky. We have enjoyed working with Rachel and recommend her!”

- Kathy Dano

“My son began piano lessons with Rachel nearly two years ago and we have been very happy working with her. He has progressed steadily and is continually challenged to improve. She offers musical pieces that fit his personal interests as well as more traditional pieces with increasing complexity. We hope to continue learning with her for many more years to come.”

- Guinevere Husic

“Rachel is a wonderful professional! My daughters take piano and clarinet lessons with her. She is great with kids, very patient and knowledgeable about music.”
